Complicated Maths ... thanks a lot Royal Mail :(
Today it has rained ... and rained ... and rained! About what you'd expect for Easter Monday in the UK! So rather than go out and enjoy the bank holiday I have, instead, been wrestling with a big spreadsheet!
Those of us in the UK can't have escaped the fact that Royal Mail plan to increase their postage prices significantly from 30 April. The cost of sending a large letter (as many of my buttons are posted as) is increasing by 20%, the cost of posting anything fatter than 25mm is going up by 70%, postage to Europe by 80% and to the rest of the world by about 60%!
I have always tried to keep my postage costs simple, by having a standard cost per order, but with all the price changes that policy is no longer going to work. I will now need to charge postage according to weight (and size for UK orders).
I have spent a very long time today weighing, measuring, studying the new Royal Mail price list and doing lots of maths I have ended up with this spreadsheet ...
What it all means is that if you are buying only a few items from me you will probably pay a bit less postage and packaging, but if you are buying larger quantities unfortunately you will pay a bit more.
It is by no means simple!! But whichever shop you buy from the postage will be calculated at the basket/checkout stage so you can make sure you are happy with the cost before you confirm your order.
Because of the way in which the various shops calculate postage and package costs I think in most cases The Dizzy Izzy Shop will work out cheapest, and as I can sell cheaper there, most of my item prices are cheaper too, so that's the place to go for the best deal!!
All I need to do now is transfer all the gumff from the spreadsheet into each shop in time for 30 April when the new postage prices will take effect ... I can see a few late nights ahead getting all that done!!
And because pictures of spreadsheets and talk of maths isn't particularly interesting, here's a pic of some new wooden spools I've managed to lay my hands on ... these will be appearing in The Dizzy Izzy Shop and Etsy very soon, and I only have a very limited stocks at the moment so if you like them grab them while there are there :)
